Cold water introduction: small group dip at West Reservoir
A relaxed first dip into cooler open water, in a small group of up to 10 with a qualified coach and lifeguards on site.
These dips are part of a project to bring more women into London's waterways and to build our understanding of how our habits affect them. Each session includes a short talk on a different topic, such as water quality, wildlife, and how to enjoy blue spaces in a way that looks after them. This session’s talk is about how your body adapts to cold water, and later sessions will cover other topics.
What will happen
We start with a short talk from your coach about how the body reacts to cold water, why the first minute matters, and how to get in and out safely. Then we take a short, guided dip together. Dips are kept brief and you can get out whenever you like. Afterwards there is time to warm up, have a hot drink and chat.
Who it is for
The session is women-only and inclusive of trans women. Beginners are especially welcome.
What to bring
Swimsuit, towel, warm layers you can put on quickly, a woolly hat, something to stand on, and a hot drink.
Wetsuits, Neoprene gloves and boots are optional.
You will be asked to complete a short pre and post session form once you sign-up.
