The Triathlon Project: A New Women's Iron-Man Record
In May 2026 Laura Massey-Pugh undertook an epic challenge to complete 40 back to back iron-distance triathlons in 40 days, and to set a new Guinness World Record. As an experienced ultra-distance triathlete Laura has a strong background in endurance sport, but with only 6 months of specific training and having only ever completed one iron-distance event previously this was a huge stretch goal!
Spending over 16 hours a day on the three disciplines, with minimal time for rest and recovery, Laura was pushed to her physical and mental limits; especially when the Great British weather did a 30'c temperature swing in less than a week. Despite this and with an amazing amount of support from friends, family and Derby Triathlon Club Laura made it to 32 days before injury resulted in the end of the Project.
Laura will talk about what it took to create and execute The Triathlon Project and what key skills she utilised as an endurance athlete. She is looking forward to answering questions from the audience, especially from any women who are looking to go that bit further...
